Leadership Skill Drill - How To Delegate Tasks Effectively

Delegation is an essential leadership skill and an important principle of leadership development. A leader has to provide guidance, direction and support, but the leader also has a responsibility to involve other people and share the workload. For a leader who does not do so, his career will be trapped in an endless swamp with small tasks, stress and growing expectations.

How do you effectively delegate tasks?

Delegation requires a timely investment of time and effort. You need to be aware of these costs and want to absorb them. To overcome your opposition to delegation, you need to see the bigger picture and therefore the benefits that the delegation will offer you in the future.

The first step to a successful delegation is to identify tasks that someone else can do for you without compromising the quality of the work. Such tasks may include work that does not require your expertise and work that would benefit your employees. Your delegation should empower staff while freeing up time and opening up opportunities for you.

Be careful when choosing employees to whom you delegate tasks. Such staff must have the right skills and competencies and have to be available.

When delegating tasks, provide a lot of information to avoid confusion. Include information about the expected results, how you want the results to be delivered and when you need them. Make the instructions and expectations for the task as concise as possible.

If you're delegating work that takes longer to complete, make sure you've checked your progress. This will allow you to correct mistakes as they occur and provide positive feedback to increase employee morale.

When you make mistakes in a delegated job, correct them with a neutral tone. Focus on the mistakes, not the person who made them. Offer practical solutions to help your reports avoid such failures in the future.

Address employee resistance to delegation. The most common reason for this resistance is that your employees feel they are not getting enough support. Deal with this through positive feedback, additional training, and generous deadlines.

Show gratitude and appreciation. Reward your employees for a job well done. To exceed the condition of eligibility as a leader and strive for greatness, you must learn to delegate and delegate more.

The Communication Problems That Can Affect Your Leadership

If you go straight to your office first and close the door of the day, you communicate with something completely different than when you greet people and make it clear that, for example, you are available. Many managers emphasize technical skills as more important than communication skills, but what are technical skills if no one is communicating? Here are few common communication issues that can seriously affect the quality of your management. 1. How Leaders Help Strategic Thinking Flow Throughout An Organization

Home Strategic thinking is a deliberate and rational thought process that considers both the immediate situation and desired long-term results. It is both realistic and forward-looking , considering both situational constants and the inevitability of change. The strategic thinker is neither stuck in the present and focused on tactics, nor stuck in the clouds , envisioning a future without mapping out steps to success.  Why Strategic Thinking Skills Are Essential to Strong Leadership Leadership that focuses on individual “trees” without taking in a view of the entire “forest” is unlikely to innovate. Myopic leadership may be fine for the short term , but it doesn’t lay foundations for a healthy , long-term future. A leader who is skilled at strategic thinking knows how to do several things competently: ·          Analyse   opportunities and vulnerabilities ·          Weigh the feasi...
